Yashasvi Jaiswal has the opportunity to etch his name in the record books during the second Test match between England and India, set to begin on July 2nd at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The young opener is within striking distance of becoming the fastest Indian to reach 2000 Test runs.

Currently, the record is jointly held by Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag, who both achieved the milestone in 40 innings. Dravid reached the mark in 1999 against New Zealand in Hamilton, while Sehwag equaled the feat in 2004 against Australia in Chennai.

Since his Test debut in July 2023 against the West Indies in Roseau, Jaiswal has amassed 1,903 runs in 38 innings, boasting an impressive average of 52.86.

Jaiswal's Recent Performance

During the first Test at Headingley in Leeds, Jaiswal showcased his batting prowess with a fluent century, scoring 101 runs off 159 deliveries. His innings included 16 boundaries and one six, before he was eventually dismissed by England captain Ben Stokes. However, he failed to replicate the same form in the second innings, scoring only four runs off 11 balls.

The young batsman will also be keen to improve his fielding performance after dropping four crucial catches during the Leeds Test. These mistakes proved costly, contributing to India's five-wicket defeat.
