Gill's scores of 269 and 161 in the Edgbaston Test have drawn comparisons to the legendary Don Bradman. Shastri emphasized the proactive nature of the Indian captain's decisions throughout the match.
According to Shastri, this performance represents the pinnacle of Indian captaincy, awarding Gill a perfect score of 10 out of 10 for his leadership.

Gill's Transformation: From Reactive to Proactive

Shastri noted a significant shift in Gill's captaincy approach between the first and second Tests. While Gill's captaincy was reactive at Headingley, he demonstrated proactive decision-making at Edgbaston.

Shastri also commended Gill for identifying and including Akash Deep in the team. The former Indian coach believes that Akash Deep's skills are ideally suited for English playing conditions and will cause continuous problems for the English batsmen as the series progresses.

"Your captaincy was very reactive in the first test match. You almost followed the ball. You're very proactive in the next game. You might have just unearthed the best seamer for English conditions in this Indian lineup by picking Akash Deep, who will trouble England as this series progresses," said Shastri.

Gill also surpassed records previously held by Virat Kohli and secured his place in history as the first Indian captain to achieve a Test victory at Edgbaston.

India is scheduled to face England again in the third Test at Lord's, commencing on July 10.
