For many, childhood horror movies can leave lasting impressions. For Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha, the 1992 film Junoon, a horror thriller starring Rahul Roy and Pooja Bhatt, had a profound impact. Sinha, who is preparing for the release of her psychological horror film Nikita Roy on July 18th, recently discussed how Junoon continues to affect her.
In a recent interview, Sonakshi Sinha revealed the specific reason why this film still haunts her.
"One horror film that really scarred me for life was Junoon. Main aaj tak raat ko swimming pool mein nahi jaati hoon because of it,” Sonakshi Sinha confessed. The film, which depicts a man transforming into a tiger at night, instilled a deep-seated fear of swimming after dark.
Adding to the film's impact was its filming location. Sonakshi Sinha explained, "I used to go swimming at Centaur Hotel as a child, and that was the same hotel where Junoon was shot." The thought of Rahul Roy's character transforming into a tiger and entering the same pool she frequented was deeply unsettling for the young actress.
Junoon, directed by Mahesh Bhatt, tells the story of a man cursed to transform into a tiger during full moon nights. This supernatural thriller, blending horror, folklore, and drama, has become a cult classic, known for its unsettling atmosphere and transformation sequences.
Sonakshi Sinha is now preparing for the release of Nikita Roy, directed by her brother Kussh S Sinha, and featuring Arjun Rampal and Paresh Rawal. Despite her background in Bollywood, certain horror films, particularly Junoon, still evoke a sense of unease for the actress.
