Emma Raducanu has playfully dismissed speculation about a romantic relationship with Carlos Alcaraz, the multiple Grand Slam champion. The denial came during a pre-Wimbledon press conference where she also confirmed their upcoming mixed doubles partnership at the US Open.
The rumors began circulating after Raducanu was seen supporting Alcaraz at the HSBC Championships at Queen's Club. This prompted a direct question about their relationship during the press conference. Raducanu responded, "We're just good friends." As the reporter attempted to move on, Raducanu quipped, “Way to wrap up,” displaying her sharp wit.
The pair recently practiced together, preparing for their mixed doubles debut at the US Open. Raducanu shared details about their practice session, stating, "It was fun yesterday. We were both on court with Evian, just getting some volley practice ahead of New York. I'm really happy to be playing with him. We had a great time."
Raducanu also revealed that it was Alcaraz who initiated the partnership. "Yes, he asked me. He asked me earlier on in the year, and I was very surprised, honoured, and excited," she explained.
Raducanu, who famously won the 2021 US Open, has faced challenges maintaining consistency since then. She recently competed at the Eastbourne Open, where she lost to Maya Joint before the quarter-finals.
Alcaraz, on the other hand, has continued his ascent in the tennis world since his 2022 US Open victory, adding more major titles to his impressive resume. Fresh from his win at the HSBC Championships, Alcaraz will face Fabio Fognini of Italy in the first round of Wimbledon 2025.
The US Open will mark a new chapter for both Raducanu and Alcaraz as they team up in mixed doubles, offering fans a glimpse of their chemistry on the court.
