Birmingham: A spirited Indian team defied the gloomy weather to secure a resounding 336-run victory over England in the second Test at Edgbaston. This win, sealed with Shubman Gill's catch off Akash Deep's bowling to dismiss Brydon Carse, marks India's first ever Test win at the venue and levels the series at 1-1. The young Indian side has proven their mettle, demonstrating their ability to compete against top-tier opponents.

The involvement of Gill and Akash Deep, both key performers in the match, in the final dismissal was a fitting end to a dominant performance. This victory echoes the promise shown at Gabba in 2021, solidifying the depth and talent within Indian cricket. Despite missing key players like Jasprit Bumrah, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin, the next generation stepped up to showcase their capabilities.

Prior to the Test, when questioned about India's winless record at Edgbaston, captain Shubman Gill expressed confidence in his team's ability to rewrite history. Gill's belief in his team proved well-founded, after the first Test defeat at Headingley.

The declaration strategy on Day Four sparked debate, especially as rain threatened play on the final day. However, with 80 overs remaining, Akash Deep's exceptional bowling proved decisive.

Akash Deep spearheaded the attack, delivering a masterclass in seam bowling with figures of 6/99 in the second innings, adding to his four wickets from the first innings.

Early on the final day, Akash Deep dismissed Ollie Pope with a delivery that nipped back sharply, dislodging the bails. He then outfoxed first-innings centurion Harry Brook with a similar delivery. Akash's aggressive lines throughout the match were reminiscent of Mohammed Shami's bowling.

Jamie Smith's aggressive innings of 88 off 99 balls couldn't pose a threat to India's dominance. When Washington Sundar trapped Ben Stokes LBW just before lunch, England's resistance dwindled. The imposing target of 608 proved insurmountable, and England were eventually bowled out for 271.

England's earlier challenge to India to set any target ultimately backfired, as Gill's team forced them into a desperate fight for survival. India's strategic team selection for the second Test paid dividends, and they will now carry their momentum into the next Test at Lord's.
