Shimron Hetmyer delivered a stunning performance, smashing a last-ball six to secure a thrilling three-wicket victory for the Seattle Orcas against MI New York in a high-scoring encounter in the 2025 Major League Cricket (MLC) season. The Orcas successfully chased down a massive target of 238, marking the highest successful run chase in MLC history.
Shimron Hetmyer seals the victory with a towering six.
MI New York had earlier set a formidable target, posting 237/4, thanks to a blistering unbeaten century from captain Nicholas Pooran (108 off 60 balls) and a rapid 95 from Tajinder Dhillon (35 balls).
Despite the onslaught, Gerald Coetzee and Kyle Mayers managed to grab two wickets each, providing some control for the Orcas.
Seattle's chase began shakily, losing early wickets. However, Kyle Mayers (37 off 20) and Sikandar Raza (30 off 9) launched a counter-attack. Heinrich Klaasen added a quickfire 26 off 13 before falling to Rushil Ugarkar.
Then came Hetmyer's fireworks. He remained unbeaten on 97 off just 40 deliveries, hitting 5 fours and 9 sixes with a remarkable strike rate of 242.50.
With five runs needed off the final ball, Hetmyer held his nerve and flicked Kieron Pollard over fine leg for a six, sparking celebrations in the Seattle camp.
"This one is one of the best because our backs were against the wall," said Hetmyer, who was named Player of the Match. "Today is one of those days where I went with a clear mind and wanted to take the game as deep as possible."
