Rohit Sharma's Wisdom Leads to Key Wicket
Indian bowler Harshit Rana shared a story from the final ODI against Australia, highlighting a crucial piece of advice from veteran Rohit Sharma that led to a significant wicket. The incident occurred during India's impressive nine-wicket victory at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Australia were restricted to 236 runs. Rana, who spearheaded the bowling attack with an impressive 4/39, played a key role. The dismissal of Mitchell Owen came about after a brief on-field discussion.
The Wicket's Backstory
Rana recounted the incident. Shubman Gill suggested a slip fielder, but Rana initially declined. However, Rohit Sharma, positioned in the covers, intervened, urging Rana to accept the slip. "Rohit bhai was standing in covers and he was like, ‘Hey, take the slip, let me go.’ So I was like, why not bhaiya," Rana explained. The subsequent delivery saw Owen edge the ball to Rohit at first slip, securing the crucial wicket.
The bowler acknowledged Rohit's assistance, expressing his gratitude after the dismissal. This incident underscored the value of Rohit's experience.
India's Dominant Performance
Rana's bowling effort was well-supported by Washington Sundar (2/44) and Axar Patel (1/18). In the chase, Rohit Sharma led the charge with an unbeaten 121 off 125 balls, while Virat Kohli contributed a solid 74 not out.
India successfully chased down the target, finishing at 237/1 in 38.3 overs. This secured a consolation victory and prevented a clean sweep, concluding the tour on a positive note.
