Harshit Rana delivered a match-winning performance in the final ODI against Australia, helping India secure a nine-wicket victory and finish the series 1-2. His impressive bowling display served as a powerful response to recent online criticism.
Rana's 4/39 spell was instrumental in India's effort to bowl out Australia for 236. The 23-year-old claimed crucial wickets, including Alex Carey and Mitchell Owen, as Australia stumbled to 198/6. Washington Sundar (2/44) and Axar Patel (1/18) provided valuable support, ensuring India maintained pressure throughout the innings. Mohammed Siraj also chipped in with 1/24.
India made quick work of the 237-run target, with Rohit Sharma smashing an unbeaten 121 off 125 balls and Virat Kohli adding 74 not out off 81. The duo forged an unbroken 168-run partnership after Sharma and Shubman Gill (24) put on 69 for the opening wicket. India completed the chase in 38.3 overs.
Rana took to Instagram after the win, posting: "Not just a win, a statement of unity, belief and teamwork. Eleven players. One heartbeat." He finished the series as the highest wicket-taker with six scalps.
The performance came amid online criticism surrounding Rana’s inclusion in the squad. The controversy prompted senior players and experts to speak out against personal attacks on young cricketers. Ravichandran Ashwin emphasized that criticism should focus on skills and technique, not personal matters.
Rana's four-wicket haul in Sydney demonstrated his focus on performance and composure, silencing the online trolls.
