Rohit Sharma, the Indian ODI captain, recently commemorated his 18th year in international cricket with an emotional post on Instagram. The right-handed batsman made his debut for India on June 23, 2007, against Ireland in Belfast.
In his Instagram Story, Sharma expressed his gratitude, writing, "Forever grateful 23.06.07," referencing his debut date. Although he didn't get a chance to bat in that match, as India secured victory with nine wickets to spare, it marked the beginning of a remarkable career.
Since then, Rohit Sharma has become a pivotal figure in Indian cricket, leading the team to significant triumphs, including the 2024 T20 World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy.
The 38-year-old has retired from Tests and T20Is, having played 67 Test matches and 159 T20I matches. In Tests, he scored 4301 runs, including 12 centuries and 18 fifties, with an average of 40.57.
His achievements in white-ball cricket are even more impressive. In 159 T20I matches, he amassed 4231 runs, featuring five centuries and 32 fifties. In 273 ODIs, Sharma has scored 11,168 runs, including 32 centuries and 58 fifties, with an outstanding average of 48.76.
Having retired from Test cricket last month, Rohit Sharma is currently not participating in India's tour of England. His next potential appearance could be in the series against Bangladesh in August.
